What is Endoscopic Variceal Band Ligation (EVBL)?

Endoscopic Variceal Band Ligation (EVBL) is a therapeutic endoscopy procedure used to control bleeding from esophageal varices. These varices are dilated veins in the food pipe that often occur due to liver cirrhosis and portal hypertension. If left untreated, they can cause life-threatening bleeding (hematemesis).

The Case at Geetanjali Multispeciality Hospital, Wai

We are proud to announce that Geetanjali Multispeciality Hospital, Wai has successfully performed the first ever Endoscopic Variceal Band Ligation (EVBL) in Wai and surrounding rural regions.

The patient, a high-risk case with liver cirrhosis, portal hypertension, and grade 3 esophageal varices, presented with hematemesis (vomiting blood) and hypotension.
