Case Summary


A bedridden quadriplegic patient, suffering from hypoxic encephalopathy post-hanging incident (2 months prior), was brought to Geetanjali Multispeciality Hospital, Wai with:


  • Persistent paralysis

  • Absent gag reflex

  • Restricted mouth opening

  • Ongoing feeding via Ryle’s Tube (RT)



Clinical Challenge


The patient was neurologically impaired, with high risk of:


  • Aspiration pneumonia

  • Tube blockage

  • Inadequate nutrition due to long-term Ryle’s tube feeding


A decision was made to shift to Gastrostomy Feeding via PEG Tube Insertion, a safer and more effective long-term alternative.



Procedure: PEG Tube Insertion


  • Conducted at GMH Endoscopy Centre, Wai

  • Per-Oral Endoscopic Gastrostomy (PEG) performed with precision

  • Mild sedation administered for patient comfort
